As an “army brat”, I’ve had the great fortune of growing up overseas in Heidleberg, Germany. I grew up surrounded by different cultures while still having the American exposure – the best of both worlds. One experience is actually in the history books; the moment when the Berlin Wall fell. Randomly, my family took a roadtrip to East Berlin and while on the other side of the Berlin Wall, we learned of the reunification of East and West Germany. Upon crossing Check-Point Charlie back into West Germany, there was a surge of East Berliners cheering and shouting that were then met by jubilant West Berliners on the other side. It was an intense moment in time, certainly for a little girl of age 10 years old.
