Let’s kick off with some numbers because you know I’m a fan of facts and statistics. US adults now spend an average of more than 3 hours per day on their smartphones. Over a third of that time (1 hour and 15 minutes on average to be exact) is spent on social media – with 1 hour and 4 minutes spent on Facebook and Instagram combined.
Tip #1; Think mobile. The majority of Americans using social media are doing so through their mobile devices. Over 260 million every month, in fact. If you want your business to thrive via the Internet, you have to make sure it’s easy to access over mobile. Does your landing page appear clear and concise on the small screen? Are your photos sized correctly? Is the font easy to read?
Be sure to test your ads via mobile as well. You can do that through Ad Manager on Facebook (using Facebook Business).
-
Click the button in the top right corner
-
You’ll see several options including Preview on Device
-
Select “send notification to Facebook”
-
Use the testing options to ensure a smooth experience for your clients.
Another great way to make sure things are optimized for social media is by posting small videos (15-30 seconds) created specifically for a smaller screen. A good way to do that is by filming in portrait mode.
Tip #2; Showcase your value. Cutting down on the gifs and memes can help solidify your credibility as a reliable agent. Keep in mind the 80/20 rule. 80% of your content should be helpful to engage with people and the other 20% should be promotional. You want to bring value to your potential and existing clients while also keeping them engaged.
Tip #3; Utilize the tools at hand, like Stories. You can set up through Instagram to have your Stories post to both Facebook and IG by simply linking the two accounts. A quick google search can show you how simple it is. If you have a video that isn’t already in a 1920×1080 format you can resize for free through apps like Canva. In Stories it’s also easier to showcase a deeper side of you, something a bit more personal like your favorite coffee right now, evening thoughts when you’re winding down from the day. Don’t be afraid to make those connections. They will in turn deepen peoples’ connection to you, making you that much more sought out.
Tip #4; You can create new outlets for clients and customers by taking experiences to the small screen. Have a DIY based business? Offer a small DIY on IGTV for people to see the full value of what you have to offer, all while from the comfort of their home! Imagine all the fun you can have with this. Get creative! How can you make your product or service online based, even just for 5 minutes?
Tip #5; Find a marketing method that doesn’t take up valuable time and energy. Research indicates that business owners spend around 9 hours per week managing online ads. Those 9 hours could be better spent on things that require your full and devoted attention. It’s important that you know what you’re striving for in your marketing strategy so you can fully focus on it. Stick to something you know you’re able to commit to but also don’t be afraid to put in the time and effort. Trust me, it does pay off.
