The Heart of Real Estate: An Inspiring Conversation with Sharon Rooks

The real estate market is always evolving, and while the internet has made it easier than ever to search for homes, there’s still no substitute for working with an experienced real estate professional. In a recent conversation with seasoned realtor Sharon Rooks, we explored her passion for helping buyers and sellers navigate the market, her dual career as an educator, and the life lessons she’s learned along the way.

Why You Need a Realtor

Sharon emphasizes that while online platforms like Zillow and Realtor.com provide useful resources, they don’t always show the most up-to-date listings. “If you see a home on Zillow, it may not really be there anymore. Listings are pulled from the MLS, but they don’t always get updated in real time,” she explains. That’s why working with a realtor is essential—they have access to the most accurate and current information.

Beyond just listings, realtors offer expertise that buyers and sellers may not realize they need. “We stay certified, take continuing education courses, and are monitored by both national and state-level realtor associations,” Sharon shares. “We do this because we want to help.”

A Passion for Real Estate and Teaching

For Sharon, real estate is more than a job—it’s a way to serve others. She finds joy in helping first-time homebuyers achieve their dreams and guiding downsizers through a major life transition. “The excitement of a first-time home purchase is contagious,” she says. “Whether it’s a young couple buying their first home or someone purchasing later in life, that thrill never gets old.”

At the same time, Sharon understands the unique challenges of downsizing. “Buying a home 20 years ago was completely different than it is today,” she explains. “I love helping people understand the changes and transition into their next adventure.”

In addition to her work in real estate, Sharon also teaches reading at Sterling Elementary, working with students from kindergarten to fourth grade. “I pull students out for short reading sessions, and every time I see the light bulb go on, it’s magical,” she shares. “Every day is a different day for them, and I strive to be there for them in any way I can.”

Life Lessons and a Reminder to Listen to Your Body

Sharon’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. She opened up about a health scare that nearly cost her life. “I wasn’t feeling right and kept putting off going to urgent care. When I finally went, the nurse thought the pulse oximeter was broken because my heart rate was at 32 beats per minute,” she recalls. “Turns out, I needed a pacemaker.”

The experience left her with an important message: “Listen to your body. Don’t wait. Take care of yourself.”

Looking Ahead

Sharon is not only helping clients buy and sell homes, but she’s also working on resources to educate them further. “I have a few books available on my website, including guides for buyers and sellers, and I’m currently working on one specifically for military families navigating the VA system,” she reveals.

As spring approaches, Sharon encourages potential buyers and sellers to start preparing. “Even if you’re just thinking about it, let’s get you knowledgeable. Knowledge is power. When you’re ready, you’ll already have everything in place to make your move.”

Final Thoughts

With a heart for service, whether in real estate or in the classroom, Sharon Rooks is a shining example of someone truly dedicated to making a difference. “I live a life of service,” she says. “That’s how I was raised, and that’s how I want to continue to live.”

If you’re looking to buy or sell a home—or just need expert advice—Sharon is ready to help. You can find her at Sharon Rooks Homes, on Facebook, and through her Berkshire Hathaway website.

Her parting advice? “Don’t wait—whether it’s for your dream home or your health. Take the first step, and I’ll be there to guide you.”
