Helping Families Breathe, Sleep, and Thrive: Bryanna Schwarting and The Mouth Rehab

When you meet Bryanna Schwarting, you immediately sense her warmth and deep passion for helping others. She’s more than a speech-language pathologist—she’s a feeding and swallowing specialist, a certified lactation consultant, and an orofacial myology expert. Or, as she jokingly says, “just a little mouth obsessed.”

Bryanna is the founder of The Mouth Rehab in Ashburn, Virginia, a practice dedicated to helping people of all ages—from newborns to adults—improve their oral function, feeding, breathing, and overall quality of life. Her expertise spans everything from infant tongue-ties and breastfeeding challenges to orthodontic relapse, TMJ disorders, speech concerns, and even sleep-related breathing issues.

From Motherhood to Mission

Bryanna’s journey into this specialized field is deeply personal. When her own children were born with tongue ties, she experienced firsthand the frustration of seeking answers and navigating multiple specialists before finding the right help. That experience reshaped not only her approach to care but also her entire philosophy as a clinician.

“As a mom, I know what it feels like to keep searching for answers and to trust your gut when something just doesn’t feel right,” she shares. “Every family I work with deserves compassionate care that gets to the root cause, not just a temporary fix.”

This root-cause approach is what makes The Mouth Rehab so unique. Rather than simply compensating for symptoms like speech delays, oral aversions, or poor sleep, Bryanna focuses on uncovering why these challenges exist. Sometimes the culprit is a tongue-tie, a high narrow palate, or mouth breathing caused by enlarged tonsils or chronic congestion. By identifying and addressing these barriers, Bryanna helps families achieve lasting results—better feeding, clearer speech, healthier breathing patterns, and even improved sleep.

What is Myofunctional Therapy?

Many of Bryanna’s clients are surprised to learn about myofunctional therapy, which she describes as “physical therapy for the mouth.” This specialized therapy helps retrain the tongue, lips, and cheeks to work in harmony for proper breathing, chewing, swallowing, and speaking.

“People think you can just tell a child to ‘close your mouth and breathe through your nose,’” Bryanna explains, “but often there’s an underlying barrier making it difficult. Myofunctional therapy helps remove those barriers and restore function.”

This therapy not only improves feeding and speech issues but also plays a critical role in orthodontic stability, TMJ relief, and better airway health.

Transforming Lives, One Small Step at a Time

Bryanna recalls one of her favorite success stories—a young boy who had never slept through the night, struggled with bedwetting, and was constantly tired. After identifying his high, narrow palate and poor tongue posture as the root cause, Bryanna worked alongside an orthodontist for expansion, then guided him through myofunctional therapy.

The results were life-changing. He now sleeps soundly, stopped bedwetting, eats without messiness, and even overcame his speech lisp. “Sleep is restorative—it affects everything,” Bryanna says. “Helping kids breathe and sleep better transforms their mood, attention, and even their ability to learn.”

Building The Mouth Rehab

Bryanna launched The Mouth Rehab in 2023 after facing an unexpected challenge—being told her pregnancy was a “preexisting condition” by a corporate employer. Determined to create a space where families could receive compassionate, individualized care, she took a leap of faith and built her own practice.

Within a year, The Mouth Rehab became a trusted resource in Northern Virginia, earning referrals from pediatricians, orthodontists, and other healthcare providers. “I’m so grateful for the collaborative community here,” Bryanna says. “It takes a team to truly support families.”

Today, Bryanna continues to serve as both a skilled clinician and a compassionate advocate for families seeking answers. Her mission is simple but powerful: to help people of all ages breathe better, sleep better, and thrive—starting with the mouth.
