Breaking the Mold: Amy Harber on Law, Leadership, and Living with Purpose

On this episode of The Alimond Show, we sat down with the dynamic Amy Harber—managing attorney at Whitlock Law PLLC’s new Leesburg office—to talk about career pivots, community-centered law, and why empowering others through legal access matters more than ever.

Amy’s story isn’t one of a straight line—it’s a testament to trusting your gut, owning your evolution, and redefining success on your terms.

From Journalism to Justice

Amy didn’t grow up dreaming of being a lawyer. In fact, her early career had her working in journalism and communications. But a deep-rooted desire to serve others led her into victim advocacy work and eventually to law school at night—while working full-time. Her resilience and adaptability shaped the foundation for the lawyer she is today: driven, empathetic, and fiercely honest.

After nearly a decade as a prosecutor—first in Hampton and then Loudoun County—Amy pivoted once again during the pandemic. With a new baby at home, she sought greater flexibility and joined Allstate as in-house counsel. But she didn’t stay in corporate for long.

When Respect Becomes Partnership

Amy met her current law firm partner, Morgan Whitlock, the old-fashioned way: in court, on opposing sides. Their mutual respect, confidence, and courtroom experience turned into a powerful alliance. Now, as the face of Whitlock Law’s Leesburg office, Amy brings leadership, autonomy, and heart to the table.

“I’m not afraid to lose, and I’m not afraid to win. Morgan’s the same way. That’s why we work so well together.”

Their firm—a woman-owned powerhouse—has grown from a personal injury focus into a full-service law practice. In addition to injury cases, they now handle criminal and traffic defense, protective orders, expungements, insurance disputes, and more.

Real Talk, Real Results

Amy doesn’t sugarcoat things. “I’m a truth bomber,” she says. Whether it’s telling a client their case isn’t strong or recommending someone better suited to a specific legal need, her approach is rooted in honesty, clarity, and respect.

Her well-rounded background—including time as a prosecutor and corporate counsel—gives her a unique lens that few attorneys possess. She understands all sides of a case and how to guide her clients with strategy and empathy.

“Every case matters—whether it’s a thousand-dollar settlement or seven figures. We don’t turn people away because their bills aren’t big enough.”

Community, Mentorship, and the Power of Representation

Amy and her firm are deeply embedded in the local community—supporting everything from youth scholarships to Loudoun Pride Festival. But beyond visibility, she’s passionate about mentorship, especially for young women considering law careers. Her message is clear: there’s room for you in the legal field, whether you want to be in the courtroom or behind the scenes helping people navigate complex systems.

Growth, But the Right Kind

When asked about future plans, Amy’s goals aren’t just about scale—they’re about sustainability and intention. “We don’t want to be a mill,” she says. “We want to grow smart, stay personal, and serve people the way they deserve to be served.”

And while she may not aspire to have her name on the firm wall, Amy is the type of leader every community needs—steady, skilled, and self-aware.

A Lawyer Who Gets It

She’s seen tragedy, built trust with clients in their darkest hours, and found peace with the realities of an emotionally intense profession. Her mantra? “Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future.”

It’s this belief in transformation, empathy, and possibility that makes Amy Harber more than just an attorney—she’s an advocate for both justice and humanity.
