We recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Chris Chapman, the founder and driving force behind MGS, to hear the inspiring story behind his growing company and his philosophy on construction, design, and service.

Chris’s journey into the world of home remodeling started young. Growing up in Herndon, Virginia, he was the kind of kid who was always outside, building roads for his toy cars and crafting projects from scratch. His early love for hands-on work blossomed further when he began helping a local pastor and carpenter at just 13 years old, setting the foundation for a lifelong passion for construction and craftsmanship.

After serving four years in the Marine Corps as a firefighter and EMT, Chris transitioned back into the construction industry, initially working as a project manager for a custom home builder. Although he ventured into civil engineering and electrical work, Chris’s true calling was clear—he loved building, problem-solving, and creating spaces that made people’s lives better.

In 2020, MGS Contracting Services was born. Named after the initials of his three children—Malia, Gentry, and Samara—MGS was built on family values, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. From kitchens, bathrooms, and basements to large-scale additions and now even custom home builds, Chris and his team approach every project with a unique, client-centered mindset.

Efficiency, Functionality, and Future-Proofing Homes

Chris’s philosophy focuses heavily on not just aesthetics but also efficiency and function. Whether it’s designing basements to maximize usable space, relocating utilities to create better layouts, or even planning for future additions like decks, Chris ensures his work stands the test of time. His mission? To build it right the first time, without cutting corners, ensuring his clients enjoy their homes for decades to come.

As Chris says, “I’m not a salesperson—I’m a problem solver.” His emphasis is always on finding the most practical, cost-effective solutions for his clients, even if it means recommending a more affordable option or tackling extra repairs without additional charge. It’s this honesty and commitment that have earned MGS the trust and loyalty of so many homeowners across Northern Virginia.
