Life, Love, and Mortgages: A Real Conversation with Melissa Landon

When it comes to the mortgage world, few people bring the depth of experience, heart, and honesty that Melissa Landon does. As the branch manager of CMG Home Loans’ Gainesville office and the head of the Landon Group, Melissa wears many hats—leader, mentor, podcast host, mom of four, and someone deeply rooted in both faith and community.

From Real Estate Roots to Mortgage Mastery

Melissa’s journey began in the world of real estate, heavily influenced by a family immersed in the industry. After testing the waters as a young agent and moving through roles in relocation and title services, she found her true calling in mortgages. Her transition wasn’t about chasing titles—it was about chasing growth. “I loved each step, but I always wanted the next challenge,” she shared.

What makes Melissa such a powerful force in the mortgage space is her understanding of the entire transaction—from the agent’s hustle to the backend of title work. This holistic view equips her team to serve clients with a level of clarity and care that’s hard to match.

The Landon Group: Built on Values

Leading a small but growing team, Melissa emphasizes values over volume. “Faith and the willingness to learn—that’s what I look for in a teammate,” she said. Her leadership style is rooted in mentorship and empathy, particularly when guiding first-time homebuyers through the intimidating process of homeownership.

“I tell my clients, I couldn’t do your job either,” she laughed, “so we’re going to break it down, explain everything, and go at your pace.” It’s this mix of relatability and knowledge that makes her team a go-to for VA loans and down payment assistance—especially for those new to the market or transitioning through life’s major milestones.

Raw, Real, and Relatable: The Podcast That Took Off

Melissa isn’t just helping families close on homes—she’s also helping people open up about life. In 2023, during a deeply personal season, she turned her camera on and began sharing her journey publicly. That’s how Rate the Dream: Life, Love, and Mortgages was born.

Originally focused on mortgage education, the podcast became a raw outlet for Melissa to talk about marriage struggles, sobriety, faith, and forgiveness. “People related to the imperfection,” she said. “And honestly, it helped me heal.”

The response? Overwhelming. Strangers reached out. Friends opened up. People found courage through her vulnerability.

Now revamped and restructured, the podcast includes themed episodes like Military Appreciation Month and moving tips for military families. But Melissa notes, “It’s the honest episodes that people keep coming back to.”

On Balance, Boundaries, and the Bigger Picture

With four kids, a busy team, and a volleyball-packed schedule, Melissa is the first to admit there’s no perfect balance. “There’s no secret sauce,” she laughed. “We just make it work.” Her family pitches in, her team steps up, and she’s learning to set boundaries—starting with turning her phone off at dinner.

Faith plays a massive role in keeping her grounded. “I’ve learned to let go and trust that God’s leading my family where we need to go,” she shared. That trust helped her navigate some of her darkest moments, and it’s now part of the wisdom she shares with both clients and listeners.

Giving Back, Moving Forward

Through her involvement with programs like Homes for Heroes, Melissa ensures her business gives back to those who serve—teachers, nurses, first responders, and veterans. For her, it’s personal. “These people give so much. Helping them buy a home is the least we can do.”

Looking ahead, Melissa hopes to grow her team, mentor new loan officers, and continue to live a life that integrates work, family, and faith. “I love what I do. And I want to help others find that same joy and balance.”

Final Thought:

Whether she’s walking a first-time buyer through their options, rebuilding her marriage in front of a podcast audience, or cheering at a volleyball tournament with her laptop open, Melissa Landon shows up—real, resilient, and full of heart. And in a business built on trust, that’s exactly the kind of leader people are drawn to.
