From Preschool to Pouring Pints: How Natalie Femia Curated Loudoun County’s Most Creative Brewery Experience
When you think of breweries, you might picture craft beers and casual vibes—but at Lost Barrel Brewing in Middleburg, Virginia, there’s a deeper story brewing behind the bar. At the heart of it is Natalie Femia, Director of Marketing and Events—and an unexpected but perfect fit for the job.
Natalie’s journey didn’t begin in hospitality or marketing. In fact, she started out working in early childhood development after majoring in family studies. But something inside her craved more creativity, freedom, and fun. That’s when she pivoted, earned a graphic and web design certificate at George Mason University, and landed a role at a marketing firm. There, she found her groove in social media and brand engagement—skills that would later become the cornerstone of her work at her family’s brewery.
Today, Natalie runs all of Lost Barrel Brewing’s marketing—from event planning and Pinterest mood boards to TikTok trends and taproom vibes. She’s a one-woman marketing powerhouse, curating every guest touchpoint so that visitors leave not only with a great drink but also an unforgettable experience.
What makes Lost Barrel Brewing stand out? First, it’s the location—a horse farm with sweeping views of trees, fields, and peaceful countryside. But it’s also the lifestyle approach—offering more than just drinks. Guests can shop at their boutique for fashion-forward pieces, enjoy live music or hand-picked playlists curated by Natalie’s retired DJ mom, and attend immersive events like Honky Tonk Night, complete with line dancing, branded boots, and custom cocktails like their signature “Farm Water.”
Natalie’s favorite part of the job? The moment when everything comes together—when a themed event is packed, the decor matches her Pinterest board, and guests are smiling and soaking in the experience. She’s not just marketing beer—she’s crafting moments that make people say, “I can’t wait to come back.”
Her advice to new entrepreneurs? Start engaging with your community before your doors open. Share your journey, show your face, post behind-the-scenes content, and let people become invested in your story. Because that’s what turns customers into loyal advocates—and events into unforgettable memories.
