Lessons from Local Leaders:

Rachel Bonner

Whole-Person Healing with Rachel Bonner of RachelBWell

On this episode of The Alimond Show, we sat down with the inspiring and insightful Rachel Bonner, founder of RachelBWell and a family nurse practitioner with over 20 years of experience in primary care. Based in Leesburg, VA, Rachel is redefining the healthcare experience by blending evidence-based medicine with a holistic, integrative approach to help patients—especially women—feel seen, heard, and truly supported in their wellness journey.

From Conventional to Integrative Care

Rachel shared how her early career in traditional healthcare left her feeling limited in how much time and care she could give to her patients. “Insurance doesn’t pay for an hour-long conversation,” she noted. That barrier led her to take a leap of faith—starting her own practice where she could finally offer the kind of care she always envisioned: in-depth, personalized, and rooted in addressing the root cause rather than just symptoms.

Her holistic approach looks at a patient’s full lifestyle—from sleep and nutrition to stress and movement. Whether patients are experiencing hormone imbalances, metabolic issues, or perimenopausal symptoms, Rachel dives deep to uncover what’s really going on beneath the surface. “We’re not just giving a prescription and hoping it works,” she emphasized. “We’re building a plan that makes sense for your body and your life.”

COVID, Clarity, and Change

Like many in healthcare, Rachel’s experience during COVID played a huge role in shaping her next steps. The chaos and constraints of pandemic-era primary care—virtual visits, safety gear, and the inability to provide deeper connection—sparked a desire for more autonomy, more impact, and ultimately, a practice that prioritized patient-centered care over bureaucracy.

Women’s Health Advocate

Rachel is particularly passionate about women’s health, a field she says is vastly under-researched. She sees women from their late 30s to 60s who often come to her after feeling dismissed or misdiagnosed elsewhere. “They’re told everything looks fine, but they’re exhausted, not sleeping, losing hair. They know something’s wrong,” she said. “It’s not all in their heads—and I’m here to validate that.”

Whether it’s hormonal testing, metabolic health, or support with PCOS or menopause, Rachel acts as both provider and advocate, ensuring her patients are heard and treated with dignity.

More Than Hormones

While she’s known as “the hormone provider,” Rachel also has a deep interest in metabolic health, weight loss, and longevity. She encourages patients to focus on their health span—not just living longer, but living better. From lifestyle coaching to medications like semaglutide when appropriate, she helps clients create sustainable, whole-person plans.

Entrepreneurship with Intention

Currently a solo practitioner, Rachel is not focused on rapid expansion. Instead, she’s committed to deepening her care and possibly bringing on collaborators like a functional nutritionist in the future. She also credits her growing presence on Instagram (thanks to help from her local marketing assistant Jordan Humphries) with helping her reach and educate more people about what she offers.

When asked how she sets boundaries in her business, she candidly admitted it’s a work in progress—but exercise, sleep, and taking at least one slower-paced weekend day help keep her grounded. “I can’t tell my patients how to live a healthy life if I’m not living it myself,” she said.

Final Thoughts: MWD

Rachel left us with a simple mantra that’s guided her since childhood—MWD: Make Wise Decisions. Shared by her father, it’s a reminder to be intentional, present, and aligned in your choices—whether in health, business, or life.

If you’re looking for a practitioner who takes the time to listen, digs deep to understand your health, and truly cares about your well-being, Rachel Bonner is that person. You can learn more by heading over to the links below with Rachel’s information on where to best reach her.
