Diane Wright: Author, Artist, and Runner on a Mission to Inspire Through Words and Art
Diane Rigby Wright has spent her life weaving stories, creating art, and inspiring others to find joy in the everyday. From her early love of poetry to her published children’s books, her journey is one of resilience, creativity, and determination.
A resident of Winchester, Virginia, Diane is a writer, artist, and Airbnb Superhost. She’s published two children’s books, including Avoid Angry Alligators, and is currently working on her third. She also has a remarkable personal goal: to run a race in every state. With 30 states completed so far, she’s well on her way to achieving this dream.
Her story is deeply rooted in teaching, art, and positivity. Diane spent years as a middle school teacher, a role that shaped her understanding of identity and resilience—qualities she passes on through her writing. Avoid Angry Alligators uses playful rhyme, humor, and Dr. Seuss–inspired cadence to teach children the importance of kindness, empathy, and gratitude. Diane not only wrote the story but illustrated it herself, stepping out of her comfort zone to bring her words to life.
Her second book, My Ride, reflects on her childhood in suburban Boston and the cultural adjustment she faced after moving to Virginia. Currently, she’s also working on a book inspired by her grandmother’s journey from Ireland, drawing from genealogical discoveries that connect her more deeply to her roots.
Beyond writing, Diane shares her creativity with others through art lessons and “art parties.” One of her signature workshops helps participants symbolically “wash away” negative feelings by painting oceans and sunrises layered with words of release and joy. She believes art is both meditation and healing—and she encourages adults to reconnect with the uninhibited creativity they had as children.
Her positivity has led to unique opportunities. Diane presented her book at the Southern California Children’s Book Fair on a stage provided by the San Diego Zoo, and she continues to grow her reach through speaking engagements and storytelling sessions. Recently, she even won a contest that will take her on a spiritual journey to India—an adventure she believes will deepen her perspective and infuse her writing with new inspiration.
Diane’s legacy is one of love, optimism, and perseverance. Whether she’s running marathons, painting daily doodles, or inspiring children with rhymes, her message remains the same: life is good, gratitude matters, and kindness should guide us.
