When you’re getting ready for a photoshoot, should you bring props? What kind of props? And how can they help or hurt your shots? In this post, we’ll explore the pros and cons of using props in your photoshoots—plus some tips on how to make them work for you. By the end, you’ll know whether bringing props is the right call for your next shoot!
Here are some ways that props are effective at a headshot session:
-
Relax a nervous subject
-
Add ambiance to a portrait
-
Contextualize the subject
-
Create and strengthen a concept
-
Add humor
Props are there to support you. The way you relate to the prop is important as this will influence the feel of the photo. Having a prop sit alongside your subject will sometimes be enough.
In our studio we have a variety of signs to hold, cups, books and notebooks that we build into your session to highlight who you are and what you do. We encourage you to bring anything along with you that you would like to be photographed with.
Props are an excellent way to make your headshot session more fun and memorable. They also help bring out the personality of your brand or company. Bring your favorite props with you to your next headshot session!
